Nigerian musicians Davido and Wizkid are undoubted the two biggest musicians on the African continent at the moment.

Their musical genre – Afrobeats which transcends the borders of Africa, have made significant strides in Europe, America and some of parts of Asia.

Davido and Wizkid are obviously making Nigerians and as a matter of fact, Africans proud, with their remarkable achievements in music as well as their personal lives. But one might ask, how do the two of them stack up against each other? Who has a bigger global influence?

Facebook isn’t any different with Davido winning with 4 million followers whiles Wizkid has 2.1 million. From the analysis, it is evident that Davido is King of social media.

YouTube is the biggest video streaming platform on the planet with billions of daily visitors. Creators upload and monetize their content on YouTube, so that billions of people who have access to the platform can access it. YouTube views count is also an important metric in measuring music influence and success. That is why American Rapper 6ix 9nine Takashi trended worldwide when his hit song ”GOOBA” amassed 43 million views in 24 hours. Davido has gained 1.72M subscribers on YouTube with total views a total views count of 610,090,065 . Wizkid on the other hand, has 1.2M subscribers and a total views count of 473,653,735 . Davido Wins this round as well.

As i have mentioned in the preceding paragraphs, Davido and wizkid have chalked up successes globally with the unique style and genre of music – Afrobeats. They have joined the list of few global icons from the African continent. Davido and Wizkid have both had collaborations with global musical heavyweights across the world. Davido has done collaborations artistes such as, Meek Mill, Wale, Rae sremmurd, Young Thug, Tinashe, Quavo, Tonry Lanez, Popcaan and many others. Wizkid has also had some mega collaborations with global icons like Beyonce and Drake. Other collaborations worth mentioning include; Dua Lipa, Major Lazer, Tyga, Trey Songz, Chronixx, Offset, Chris Brown and many others.

Wizkid‘s Top songs are, COME CLOSER, SOCO and FEVER with 91 million, 73 million and 53 million respectively. Davido is also reported to lead the scoreboards on their streaming platforms, Audiomack, Itunes, Tidal and Boomplay.

6 . AWARDS

Davido and Wizkid have both been acknowledged for their wonderful contributions to the African music Industry. They have recognized internationally and some of the most enviable accolades in their industry. Davido have won the following awards, KORA AWARDS, MTV AWARDS, BET, GHANA MUSIC AWARDS, CHANNEL O, NIGERIA ENTERTAINMENT AWARD, etc. Wizkid also has the following awards under his belt; BET AWARDS, CHANNEL O, MTV AWARDS, BILLBOARDS , IHEARTRADIO, GHANA MUSIC AWARDS, HEADIES, and many others. This round is a tie in my opinion.

Google trends analysis is the easiest way to find out what people are searching for on google and use that as a yardstick for choosing influencers and brand ambassadors. In a comparison i personally carried out o google trends, Davido has a slightly higher search volume worldwide as compared to his Nigerian colleague Wizkid.
