VC Reacts To JAMB Withholding 34,120 UTME Results

The Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University (ABSU), Prof. Uche Ikonne , has lauded the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB ), saying that the body ‘has come very much alive’ following its stiff sanction on those involved in malpractice in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME ) 2019.

NAIJAPARRY had reported that
JAMB registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede revealed on Saturday morning that the body has released the long-awaited results of the 2019 UTME while withholding 34,120 due to various infractions.

Also, it was learnt that 15,145 of the results were withheld for further clarification.

“This time, JAMB has come very much alive. It’s not that the cheating has been little at this time. Its been there over the years. Like [sic] I said, if the monitoring agency is committed to its work and say ‘now we have to checkmate this’, then we [would] have these various aspects of cheating being exposed. Starting from the registration.”

More than 1.8 million candidates sat for the 2019 UTME from April 11 to April 18. JAMB meanwhile did not release the results as early as many had expected, with candidates getting apprehensive.

The examination body had, however, explained that it wanted to first screen the entire candidates’ results
to weed out those who were involved in any form of malpractice during the examination.
