Three feared dead as vehicles plunge into Ede’s Osun River – Photo

No fewer than three persons lost their lives on Sunday evening in Ede, Osun State, as a bus, conveying them plunged into Osun River.

Naijaparry learnt that the accident occurred late in the evening on Sunday but rescue operation did not commence on time to save the victims.

However, some locals dived into the river to retrieve the victims, who were confirmed dead by the time they arrived at a private hospital.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Osun State Police Command, Mrs Folasade Odoro confirmed the development but explained that she cannot ascertain the number of casualties in the accident.

Meanwhile, the doctor, who owned the private hospital where the victims were taken to, Dr Rasak Akindele said that the bodies arrived at his clinic around 11 pm and upon examination, they were all discovered dead.


He stated, “I was told the accident happened around 7.00pm but the rescue was not timely because I was about entering my house when I was called around 11.00pm to come and attend to the victims. I got to the hospital around 11.15pm or thereabouts and when I examined the bodies they were all lifeless.”

However, an eye witness, Mr Akintunde Sheriff hinted that the bus with Lagos State colour which was carrying food items and the victims lost balance and plunged into the river at Oke-Gada Area of Ede as a result of deep potholes.
