1. Identify What Your Passion Really Is:
Like I pointed out earlier, blogging requires passion and it is all about making impart. Action needs passion or it will be sanctioned. Choose an area of interest and passion to blog about. You cannot be writing about everything. Blog about a profitable passion or interest you have.
You need to really focus on what you are passionate about. This is called niche in blogging. It means topic in a layman term. For example, if you like to write about students, colleges and universities, stick to education niche only.
Mixing topics is only good for a personal blog. What impart do you want to make and what problem do you want to solve?
Guide To Choosing A BLOG NICHE:
- Choose a niche that you really love or enjoy.
- Make sure niche audience has at least 300,000 people online.
- Don’t choose a news blog because there is money or it is common around.
- Choose a niche that is widely accepted.
2. Pick A Nice Name For Your Blog:
You have heard of or visited google.com, wikipedia.org, Naijapary.com and so on. Naijapary, Google and Wikipedia are what is called domain name. It is the URL of a blog which a visitor will use to open it. Even if you don’t have a blog yet, you can start picturing the name you want your blog to be called.
Guide To Choosing A Domain Name For Your Blog
Choose a domain name that is easy to recall and type.
- It should relate to what you want to blog about (your niche).
- Your blog name should be short.
- Use the .com, or .org extension.
When you start a blog on free blogging platforms, you get an address like blogname.wordpress.com or blogname.blogspot.com. It is better to get a custom domain name. Example of custom domain name is ngnews247
There are hosting companies that offer free domain name when you host with them; example is Whogohost. More will be discussed under hosting.
3. Decide Which Blogging Platform To Use:
Harsh of Shoutmeloud usually advice new bloggers with no money in pocket to start blogging on Blogspot platform for the first month to learn basics of blogging. Once your basics are cleared, you are ready to start blogging on most popular blogging platform in the world.
For me, I suggest you start by writing two or more guest posts for sites that accept quest posts and see reactions from viewers. Share the post with friends and see their reactions as well. Here at Ngnews247, I accept guest posts. All you need to do is click Submit Story. Once you are good to go, use WordPress.org, not wordpress.com to start your blog.
There are free blogging platforms, but since you mean business, I will advice you to go with a self-hosted WordPress blog .
