Skhumba Hlophe Early Life and Education
Skhumba, also known by the moniker Big Banger, grew up in Tembisa, Johannesburg, South Africa. During his upbringing, he resided in a four-bedroom house with his grandmother, Leria Hlophe, who played a significant role in his life.

In 2010, Skhumba received an invitation to perform at Monwabisi Grootboom’s 99% Xhosa Comedy Show in Port Elizabeth. His comedic talents earned him a standing ovation and marked the inception of his prosperous career in comedy.
Skhumba made his debut at the Soweto Comedy Festival as one of the emerging talents, the Young Gunz of Nubreed Comedy, in 2012.
A year earlier, in 2011, he took part in the inaugural Stand Up Zulu festival, where he was featured as a comedian. The festival took place at the Playhouse in Durban, South Africa.
As his career gained momentum, Skhumba secured a position as a contributor on SABC1’s Mzansi Insider. In the same year, he also ventured into acting, landing a role in one of the episodes of Zaziwa.
In 2017, he seized another opportunity by becoming a host on SABC1’s Throwback Thursday, a comedic talk show that humorously reviewed top stories from social media, aligning perfectly with his comedic inclinations.
