When Eikhard was just entering her teens, her family moved to Oshawa, Ontario. She received her first guitar when she was 11 years old, and at the age of 12, she had her stage debut at a fiddling festival in Cobourg, Ontario.

Eikhard successfully applied for the Songwriter’s Workshop at the Toronto Mariposa Folk Festival in 1969 at the age of 13, following her maiden performance in Cobourg. There, she performed with Joni Mitchell, Ian & Sylvia, and Bruce Cockburn.
