SARS Operatives Flee After Ede Poly Students Protest Illegal Arrest
Students of Federal Polytechnic Ede went all out against the operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad(SARS) who stormed their school premises to effect an arrest in which the students of the institution deemed ”illegal.
Some of the eyewitnesses who spoke with Naijaparry on condition of anonymity said trouble started when the team of SARS arrested some students at Olomitutu, Agbale area, Ede.
The operatives, it was gathered, suspected those students of engaging in cyber fraud and arrested six of them.
The SARS operatives, upon sensing danger, took to their heels and fled the scene as soon as the students launched into a counter-attacking move against them.
The president of the institution’s Students’ Union Government, SIWES, alleged that the operatives attempted to make an arrest without informing the school authority:
“This is absolutely wrong irrespective of the basis, the polytechnic will never harbour criminals and no criminal will attempt to seek solace in the polytechnic, the act is a gross display of unprofessionalism and lack proper training on how to relate with students community.
“The polytechnic is an institution on its own; it has working structures to govern its system of operations, it also has well trained security team whose duty it is to maintain our internal security.
“For an ideal society that we preach and crave for, the Students’ Union condemn this act in all senses. It is barbaric, uncalled for and very threatening to our peace on campus.”

However, during our investigation, students of the polytechnic complained to our correspondent that they were fed up of police harassment and brutality, especially by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the polytechnic community and within North and South Local Government Areas of Ede.
