Susan Dawson passed the bar exam in 2003. In 2004, he was a founding member of Banco Chambers in Sydney.

In 2019, he represented a number of media outlets as well as Labor MP Emma Husar against Buzzfeed. Dawson’s sister Katrina was a barrister as well. She was killed during the 2014 Lindt Cafe siege.

During his distinguished career, Sandy Dawson was one of Australia’s leading defamation lawyers, representing several media outlets.

In a statement to members this morning, NSW Bar Association president Gabrielle Bashir SC announced Mr. Dawson’s death.

One of the people who have reacted to his death is NSW Supreme Court Chief Justice Andrew Bell and in his submission, he said;

“Sandy was a man of rare wit and raconteur without parallel who would always light up any room he occupied, including the courtroom.

But he was so much more: generous, courageous, brave, strong, thoughtful, and kind.”
