Hi-de-Hi! Ruth Madoc, an actress, passed away at the age of 79, her agent revealed in a statement.
The tragic news comes a day after the celebrity told followers she was “well” and hoped to “get back to normal soon” after being taken to the hospital following an accident.
Ruth Madoc was referred to by Phil Belfield of talent agency Belfield & Ward Ltd as “one of a kind and a unique talent loved by many.”
He said,
“It is with much sadness that we have to announce the death of our dear and much loved client Ruth Madoc.“
“Ruth passed away on the afternoon of Friday 9th December while in hospital following surgery for a fall she had earlier in the week, which had led her to have to withdraw from panto in Torquay.”

Ruth Madoc Cause of Death
Madoc was scheduled to perform in the pantomime Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay in December 2022.
On December 8, nevertheless, Madoc’s Instagram account posted a statement confirming that she had fallen earlier in the week and was no longer able to participate in the play.
The theatre group also posted a statement on Twitter, stating:

Alongside the post, Ruth added on Friday:
“Hiya everyone please don’t worry ! I’m well and I’ll soon be back to normal, but unfortunately @princesstheatretorquay won’t get to have The Empress Gladys in the Panto this Christmas.”
Ruth had undergone surgery after a fall earlier this week, and her agent Phil Belfield announced in a statement that she had passed away in the hospital.

Who was Ruth Madoc?
Ruth Madoc was a British actress and singer. She was best known for playing Gladys Pugh in the BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi! in the 1980s, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA TV award for Best Light Entertainment Performance.
She was born in Norwich, where her parents were at the time practicing medicine. Her Welsh grandmother Etta Williams and her English grandpa raised her in the Swansea suburb of Llansamlet while her parents spent a large portion of her childhood travelling throughout Great Britain.
She later received training at RADA in London.

Madoc participated in the 1981 TV serial The Life and Times of David Lloyd George alongside her first husband, actor Philip Madoc. They were married for twenty years and had a son named Rhys and a daughter named Lowri before divorcing in 1981.
She wed John Jackson, her second husband, in 1982. In 2002, the couple acquired a house together in Glynneath.

Ruth performed in The Black and White Minstrel Show after RADA. She portrayed Fruma Sarah in the 1971 film adaptation of the musical Fiddler on the Roof, and in the 1972 rendition of Under Milk Wood, she played Mrs.Dai Bread Two.

Her role in “Hi de Hi!”
Ruth was most well-known for playing Gladys, one of the lead characters in the Croft and Perry sitcom Hi de Hi, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA TV award for Best Light Entertainment Performance.
The comedy was filmed at Maplins, a make-believe summer camp from the 1950s. Ruth’s recurring part centred on her unrequited love for the camp entertainment manager played by Simon Cadell and she was famed for her announcements on the Camp tannoy with her distinctive 3 notes played on a tiny xylophone.
From 1980 until 1988, she had several appearances in the programme, which was filmed at the fictitious Maplins summer camp in the 1950s. She most recently played the mother of Matt Lucas’ character Daffyd Thomas in the David Walliams and Matt Lucas sitcom Little Britain. She played Fruma Sarah in Norman Jewison’s 1972 adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof, one of her cinematic credits.
When Eamonn Andrews surprised her, she was the focus of the 1984 episode of This Is Your Life.

Madoc had an appearance on the reality television program Cariad@Iaith on S4C in 2004 when celebrities took a rigorous Welsh language course. She also participated in the reality competition I’m Famous and Frightened! on LivingTV, which she ultimately won. She also played Miss Hannigan on tour in “Annie.”

In the second episode of the BBC Radio 2 sitcom Buy Me Up TV in 2007, she made an appearance as a fictionalized version of herself.She made an appearance at the Pavilion Theatre in 2008, playing the Bad Fairy opposite Sonia and Rebecca Trehearn in the pantomime “Sleeping Beauty.”
In 2009, Madoc made a comedic comeback when she starred in Big Top on BBC1, sharing the screen with Tony Robinson, John Thomson, and Amanda Holden.
