According to her husband, they stopped at 6 am to take some rest at National Highway 16 when a group of three men came towards them and tried to steal their stuff. When Riya saw her husband in trouble, she went to save him, but the gang shot her. Her husband took her to the SCC Medical College and Hospital in Uluberia where she was declared dead by the doctors.
