Revealed: Inside Ede Poly where students sleep on bare floor
Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State are being subjected to untold hardship due to the lingering crisis rocking the institution.
It was learnt that the Federal Government disbursed certain fund to the Polytechnic but was alleged to have been mismanaged by the Management. The allegation led to a fiasco between the Academic Staff of the institution and the Management.
The crisis rocking the institution was learnt to have started before the outbreak of COVID-19. It was gathered that after some months on vacation, the students were asked to resume back to academic activities in order to commence their examination earlier suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
The conflict between the Management has taken a new dimension recently as some lecturers under the aegies of ASUP descended on the students and forcefully ejected them from their various hostels.
The students that supposed to be sitting for their examination as at the time of making this report known are left stranded and being subjected to untold hardship as some of them are seeing sleeping on the streets outside the campus gate.
A student who spoke to Our correspondent under the condition of anonymity, called for the intervention of government as the crisis has caused a lot of damage to the image of the institution. She said they are at the receiving end as the management have made them to bear the brunt of the crisis. She averred that most of them are loitering around the town of Ede while some are sleeping wherever they see and it portends danger to them as their security in the town could not be guaranteed.
Naijaparry News contacted the Students’ Union President to ascertain the reasons why the students could be subjected to such inhumane treatment. The President said it was to his surprise that he learnt that students were ejected from their hostels and that he would meet the Management to address the ugly incident.
The NANS Chairman, Osun State Chapter, Ghandi while speaking said he would venture into action immediately to ensure that the students do not bear the brunt of the crisis rocking the institution.
All efforts to reached out to the Rector of the institution proof abortive as his phone rang for several times and was not picked.
