Petrol Price: Buhari Under Fire For Comparing Nigeria With Saudi Arabia
President Muhammadu Buhari had come under attack over his statement where he stated that it makes no sense for petrol to be cheaper in Nigeria than Saudi Arabia.
Buhari stated this on Thursday while justifying the recent hike in petroleum price.
He had said, “In the circumstances, a responsible government must face realities and take tough decisions. Petroleum prices in Nigeria are to be adjusted. We sell now at N161 per litre.”
“Further afield, Egypt charges N211 per litre. Saudi Arabia charges N168 per litre. It makes no sense for oil to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.”
The statement, however, did not go down well with some Nigerians who have taken to the Micro-blogging platform to express their thought on the statement.
Here are some reactions below:
Why compare Nigeria pump price to that of Ghana, Egypt and others?. Have you compared our poverty level. Politicians have mismanage this country and need to close the gap between the rich and poor before you start all these comparison

Then it shouldn't make sense for Saudi Arabia, Ghana and Benin Republic to enjoy constant electricity supply when Nigerians can't.
It shouldn't make sense for Saudi to have good road networks and health care facilities while our president travels to London for medical treatment— atewogboye doyin (@doyinbendoy) October 1, 2020
Today, Buhari justified his oil price surge by citing Saudi which charges N168 and said “It makes no sense for oil to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.”
But he forgot to mention that the minimum wage in Saudi is R3,000 which is N305,126.
Pay N305,126. We’ll pay N168.
