Oyetola Reacts To Defeat At Osun Governorship Tribunal

Governor Gboyega Oyetola has said he is heading to the Court of Appeal following the judgement by a tribunal in Osun, upturning his victory at the state governorship election.

This is according to a statement released on Friday by Wole Oyebamiji, Secretary to the State Government of
Osun .

In its statement, the state government informed the people that the judgment of the election tribunal has been put on appeal.

The government assured the people of Osun that justice will prevail at last and that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain law and order across the State.

The state government in its communique appreciated the support of the majority of the people “in all things essential for mutual progress”.

It further assured all the residents of the state of adequate security of lives and properties, noting that the Government of the State is still the only legitimate government having the authority to govern Osun.

Residents of the state were urged to go about their lawful duties without any hindrance.

NAIJAPARRY reports the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has declared
Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the 2018 governorship election in the state.

It held that Oyetola was not validly returned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the tribunal, the supplementary governorship elections of 27 September, 2018, held in seven polling units were illegal.

It stated that the exercise was borne out of an illegal cancellation of results in the polling units during the September 22, 2018, original poll.

The Returning Officers who declared the results cancelled, according to the Tribunal, lacked the power to do so.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Adeleke, petitioned the tribunal to declare Adeleke the governor-elect because, according to them, the party polled the highest lawful votes.
