Osun Speaker condemns police brutality in Iwo
The Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has condemned police brutality on a woman in Iwo for allegedly flouting the lockdown order of the State.
Owoeye who was reacting to the viral video in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, described the incident as disgusting and awful.
He said “I condemn the brutality on Tola Azeez in it’s entirety, we are Omoluabi people and such attack has no place in our society.”
“The video reaffirms the failure in our system, I’m also alarmed by the audacity and impunity they have in flogging a woman in broad daylight.”
“I symphatize with Mrs Tola Azeez on the incident and promise that the leadership of the 7th Assembly will begin to beam our searchlight towards police brutality on our people. There are laws guiding our land and no one is above it, be it a lawmaker or a law enforcer.”
“I’m also calling on the leadership of the force in the State to rise up to the occasion and weed the command of bad eggs and loose cannon who will bring shame upon it.”
“As disappointed as I am that this happened on our soil, I’m sure the Commissioner of Police must also be disappointed for the bad image the incidence brought to his command. I must also commend the Inspector General of Police for the quick action in bringing the erring officers to book.” He concluded.
