OSPOLY: Attack on Union PRO elevates security concerns
The Student union Public Relations Officer of OSPOLY Comrade Oyeniyi Timileyin has expressed insecurity concerns after he was attacked by unknown students during the coordination of the student representative council election which was postponed till Monday.
The union PRO while reacting to the attack told NEB metro that he was attacked by unknown student during the aftermath of the SRC election.
‘I was attacked by unknown student sent to me by other camp, all indication shows’.
According to an eyewitness the student PRO was attacked amidst all other students by a yet to be identified student who slapped the union officer before running away.
‘I was very close to the union PRO when he was slapped by one guy that I cannot really get his face clearly,I can bodly say that anyone or group might be the cause of the attack but no one knows’.
The eyewitness expressed that students were standing in their numbers while there were different arguments but the attack on the union PRO was planned and calculated.
A student who spoke with NEB metro expressed fear as the level of insecurity on campus is becoming worrisome most especially this period where there are more non students coming in to interfere with campus activities.
‘The school management need to wake up and not endanger the lives of students by not allowing election to be a source of insecurity on a campus that has been very serene and friendly’.
I saw very different and strange faces at the election ground most especially hoodlums that followed some paramilitary guys here and there on campus,I was very afraid with the level of hooliganism displayed by even those we had thought are campus leaders’.
It would be recall that the SRC election which took place Friday 22nd of January 2021 has been postponed till Monday 25th January, as stakeholders involved failed to reach a compromise, after which student and hoodlums clash in a war of words and logomachy during which the PRO was attacked.
