Ondo Police Apprehend Kidnapper While Withdrawing Ransom Money

The Ondo State Police command have arrested the suspected kidnapper of a six-year-old girl in Akure, the state capital.

It was learnt that the suspect abducted the girl from a Toyota Corolla where her mother left her at Lafe Area, Akure, to go and shop for groceries for the family.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said he was arrested while trying to withdraw part of the money he received as ransom.

While briefing journalists on Saturday, January 7th, the police spokesperson said the kidnap suspect had demanded N50 million from the girl’s family for her release.

She added that the victim’s mother, Mrs Chukwu-Ezedima, consequently reported the kidnapping to the police on December 21, 2022, at 9.00p.m.

Odunlami-Omisanya, who did not disclose if the ransom was paid in full, revealed that the suspect was nabbed on December 31, 2022 at a POS stand while trying to withdraw part of the money.

She added; “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence, while the victim was rescued unhurt. The suspect will soon be arraigned in court”.
