Ohemaa Mercy Early Life and Education

Mercy Amoah, widely recognized as Ohemaa Mercy, was born in Weija, Accra, to parents of Fanti descent, namely Mr. and Mrs. Amoah, hailing from Abakrapa and Elmina, respectively. She spent her early years primarily in Koforidua.

Ohemaa Mercy completed her primary education at St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School in Koforidua and pursued her secondary education at Ghana Senior High School, also located in Koforidua.

Following this, she furthered her education at the S.D.A Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua, where she earned her Teachers Certificate ‘A’.

Ohemaa Mercy made her debut in the music scene with her first album, “Adamfo Papa,” which was released in late November 2004. This album quickly gained widespread recognition, propelling Ohemaa into the spotlight.

In 2007, this gospel artist released her second album, “Edin Jesus,” which went on to become the best-selling album of the year, with 875,000 copies sold within six months of its release.

This achievement earned her ten nominations at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards, a record number of nominations at the time. She triumphed at the awards ceremony, taking home three titles: Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Gospel Album of the Year.

That year, she also received a Grand Medal at the National Honours Award from the former President of Ghana, John Kufuor.

In 2010-11, Ohemaa Mercy unveiled her third album, “Wobeye Kese,” which, once again, became the highest-selling album in the country and dominated the music charts. Four months after its release, this album earned her four nominations at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards.

She continued to achieve recognition both in Ghana and abroad. She was named Gospel Artiste of the Year in Ghana and Canada in the same year.

Additionally, she received a nomination for Best Female Artiste West Africa at the Africa Gospel Music Awards in London. Ohemaa Mercy’s track “Ote Me Mu” featuring MOG music won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 23 “Gospel Song Of The Year.”
