OAU: Reason Behind Fire Outbreak In Akintola Hall

There was a fire outbreak in Akintola Hall of residence in the late hour of Thursday. 25th January.

At about 10:15pm, a fire broke out in Block W1, room 102. Our findings reveal that the fire outbreak was as a result of gas explosion.

According to an occupant of the room interviewed after this ugly incident who pleaded anonymity, she said: “A gas cylinder with a bad burner caused the fire outbreak.

One of my roommates who allegedly owns the gas cylinder was cooking but the gas cylinder caught up in flames due to it not going off after cooking”.

As at the time of the outbreak, the room was caught up in flames and smoke filled the room. Most of the occupants of Akintola hall rushed out to find out what caused the uproar.

Some were even seen scampering for safety amidst the commotion.

The fire was put out by the combined efforts of the firefighters who showed up immediately and the efforts of students who used sand and water.

When asked if any of the occupants suffered injury or if there was any substantial damage , the interviewed occupant replied negatively.

When the said the room was visited, it was still in disarray due to the unforseen incident . Fire outbreak , especially gas explosions have occurred on OAU soil in recent times.

This is also coming at a time students have been informed by the school management that the use of hot plates will not be tolerated as from next session.
