Before being elected to the Gauteng Provincial Assembly in the general election of May 2019, Molapo held the positions of DA councilor in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality and chairperson of the Section 79 Oversight Committee for Human Settlements.

She joined the education committee in June 2019 and was added as an alternate to the social development and petitions committees.

After being accused of sharing information with the Economic Freedom Fighters while a DA councilor in Tshwane, Molapo was expelled from the party in October 2020.

She joined the newly established ActionSA party led by Herman Mashaba in March 2021 as its provincial media manager and John Moodey’s provincial spokesman for the Gauteng party.

When an internal party inquiry revealed that Molapo had been giving her husband Abel Tau secret party material so he could trash the party, the couple was banned from ActionSA in March 2023. Abel Tau had already been dismissed from the party in November 2022.

She was also charged with intimidating other ActionSA caucus members in Tshwane and liking a Facebook post that attacked party chairman Herman Mashaba.
