Sex-For-Mark Saga: OAU Student Monica Osagie Narrates How It Happened
The sex-for-mark controversy was on the front burner of conversations a few weeks ago and the entire country is waiting to see the end of the drama. The international community is abreast of the case with CNN having a tête-à-tête with the victim Monica Osagie.
Meanwhile, the victim of the sex-fo-mark controversy Monica Osagie has come out to narrate the entire experience.
In an Interview with CNN, Monica disclosed she was a bit close to Prof. Akindele and she even helped him to edit his book, adding that she saw him as her mentor.
Little did she know that her mentor Prof. Akindele would ask for more and she became uncomfortable with the relationship so she refrained.
She said “We actually edited the book together… Then, the next thing he told me was, ‘Can you date me?”.
“I was like, ‘No.’ He was like, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘One, I don’t date lecturers, and secondly, you are more mature than I am.”
She further stated that the lecturer failed her on purpose in order to make her sleep with him.
“He kept calling me to ask if I was ready to accept his proposal. So, I decided to record our next conversation,” Monica explained.
Monica also revealed that she has been dealing with public harassment since the news broke on the social media.
She said “I am actually happy I came out. I am helping many ladies that have gone through the same thing I have gone through, and most of them can’t talk about it.”
“They are scared of coming out in public. But I know it happens everywhere, not just in Nigeria. For me, speaking up will bring more women to speak and eradicate what is happening around young women and older men.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor has submitted the case to the University Council who will take a decision.
