Modakeke Students’ Union Treasurer Impeached Few Hours To Exit Office
The indigenous students’ union of Modakeke took a new turn today as the incumbent treasurer was impeached barely few hours to the inauguration of new executives.
This was made known by the Union’s Senatorial Council in her press statement, dated “12th of January, 2019”, signed by the Senate President and Clerk, Senators Oyebanji Faith John and Oladipupo Samuel.
The statement read in part
“It’s more important to reiterate our joint resolutions with the concerned officers of the union, at our last and seventh plenary session, that the Treasurer, Com. Akinpelu Olaleye should pay a stipulated penalty fee of two thousand naira (#2000) to the Union’s Bank account, on or before the 12th day of January, 2019, otherwise face impeachment, as in Chapter Six (6), Section Two (2), Subsection Five (5) of FUMS Constitution (2018, as ammended).”
“The initial resolution was that the Treasurer should vacate the office with immediate effect, of which motion was guillotine by the Senate President in accordance with Chapter Four (4), Section Nine (9), Subsection thirteen(13) of the Union’s constitution, before the resolution as (6) above was made.”
“The Treasurer, to his best of political and civil knowledge, underrated the power vested on the House, by breaching the joint agreement of paying the penalty fee”
“The Treasurer, as levied against him, by the House and the general congress, is charged with the following:
– Consecutive absence from meetings
– Misbehaviour during Union’s engagement or activities
– Negligence of duty
– Mismanagement of official duty; and
– Disregard for constituted authority.”
“The offences as in (9) above are not unconnected to Chapter Five(5), Section One (1), Subsection Three (3), Articles B, D, C, E and F.”
” In line with the above paragraphs 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, the council hereby declares the office of the National Treasurer vacant; and consequently, the Treasurer, Com. Akinpelu Olaleye is impeached.”
The statement also read
“That Com. Akinpelu
should cease parading himself as the Treasurer of the National Headquarters of Federated Union of Modakeke Students, and by consequence, he is disenfranchised from psubsequent administrative year.”
