Mario Feliciano, born on November 20, 1998, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, is a notable Puerto Rican professional baseball catcher currently a free agent. He made his MLB debut on May 1, 2021, playing for the Milwaukee Brewers. Feliciano was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2016 MLB draft from the Carlos Beltran Academy in Florida, Puerto Rico.
Beginning his professional career with the Arizona League Brewers, Feliciano played his skills in various minor league teams. In the 2017 season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, he batted .265 with 16 RBIs over 29 games. The 2018 season saw him playing with the Arizona League Brewers and Carolina Mudcats, where he slashed .251/.320/.331 with four home runs and 36 RBIs in 104 games. Unfortunately, he faced some setbacks, including a shoulder injury that limited his play during the 2018 season.
Notwithstanding the challenges, Feliciano’s dedication and talent earned him a spot on the Milwaukee Brewers’ 40-man roster after the 2020 season. He finally made his MLB debut on May 1, 2021, as a pinch hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers, drawing a walk in the bottom of the 11th inning and subsequently scoring the game-winning run.
In August 2022, Feliciano achieved another milestone by collecting his first career hit, a single off Los Angeles Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin. However, on December 14, 2022, he was designated for assignment by the Brewers following the acquisition of Owen Miller.
Notably, on December 21, 2022, Feliciano’s career took a new turn as he was claimed off waivers by the Detroit Tigers. Subsequently, on January 6, 2023, he was removed from the 40-man roster and sent outright to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. Eventually, Feliciano elected free agency on November 6.
