Man remanded in prison pending sentence over theft of N4, 500 phone

A Sharia Court in Minna on Friday remanded a man, Abubakar Ibrahim, in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing a phone valued at N4, 500.

Ibrahim was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

Magistrate Ahmed Bima, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending sentence.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Cletus Ibrahim had told the court that the complainant, Mahmud Danladi of Barkin Saleh area of Minna caught the accused in the act, arrested and brought him to Kpakungu Police Station on May 2.

He said the accused had trespassed into the complainant’s room at 7. 00 a.m. and stole his Airtel-branded phone valued at N4, 500.

The offences contravened Sections 224 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused, who entered a plea of `not guilty’, begged the court for leniency.

The magistrate has adjourned until May 16 for sentence.
