Makinde Okays N9.3b For 106 Mass Transit Buses, N2.5b For Traffic Light
The Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved the procurement of one hundred and six mass transit buses to enhance intra city mobility and complement its fleet of buses from the pacesetter transport service with an estimated cost of 9.3 billion naira
The approval was part of the resolutions reached at the 29th State Executive Council Meeting
Speaking a press briefing on Wednesday the state Commissioner for youth and sport, Mr. Seun Fakorede, explained that the rapid transit system would be involved in interstate services, assist in mobility of agricultural produces and positively impact on the state economy.
Also, the commissioner for budget and economic planning, Barrister Niyi Farinto hinted that council had granted approval for the rehabilitation and construction of two link roads around Akobo, with one beside NNPC mega station and the other at general gas, to relieve traffic tension in the axis.
He equally added that the project would be executed through direct effort labour from the Oyo state transport and road management agency (OYTROMA) with an estimated cost of 64 million naira to be completed in two months.
A representative of the state government also noted that a 2.5 billion naira traffic signal and light system as well as its control room has been approved for Challenge to Idi Odo and Challenge roundabout in Ibadan to reduce traffic in that axis.
