Lawyer sues Adamu Garba for suing Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey
A Nigerian lawyer, Tope Akinyode has filed a lawsuit challenging the suit administered by former Presidential candidate, Adamu Garba against CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey.
Recall that Garba had sued the Twitter founder over his support for the #EndSARS protests which rocked Nigeria over a two-week period.
Garba filed a fundamental human rights suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding that Dorsey pays the federal government $1bn compensation over the resultant violence that marred the #EndSARS protests.
In response to his lawsuit, however, Akinyode challenged it by filing a counter-suit, describing Dorsey’s support for the End SARS movement as a commendable act.
He stressed the need to protect the freedom of expression and resist any attempt to control social media.
Sharing screenshots of the document, the lawyer wrote;
“BREAKING: Having been consulted by friends & colleagues, I’ve filed court processes to challenge @adamugarba’s lawsuit against @jack & @Twitter. Jack’s support for Nigeria’s cause is commendable. We’ll protect our freedom of expression & resist the move to ban Twitter in Nigeria.”
