Kogi Election: Number Of Policemen Deployed In 21 LGAs Revealed
The Nigerian police has deployed 35,200 policemen in the 21 local government areas that make up Kogi state for the November 16 governorship election.
Naijaparry reports that the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations in Kogi, Abdulmajid Ali, said in Lokoja, on Thursday, that the policemen would be supported by the police mobile force.
He also revealed that the special protection and counter-terrorism units, as well as, other security outfits would be on ground to assist the deployed personnel.
Ali also said that deputy inspectors general of police (DIGs), AIGs, CPs, DCPs, and ACPs have been deployed in the three senatorial districts of Kogi.
Meanwhile, the United States has called for a free and fair governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States.
The Public Affairs Department of the United States Mission to Nigeria in Abuja made this known in a statement on Thursday.
The United States said that the conduct of the elections was important, not only for Nigeria, but for the African continent.
“The United States Government does not support any specific candidate or party in any Nigerian election,” a statement from the Mission read.
“The United States supports the Nigerian democratic process itself.
“We support a genuinely free, fair, transparent, and peaceful electoral process.
“We, and other democratic nations, will be paying close attention to actions of individuals who interfere in the democratic process or instigate violence against the civilian population before, during, or after the elections.”
