Joseph is a Taiwanese-American. He was taught to play basketball by his father alongside his other brothers when they were young.

Joseph attended Palo Alto High School in California before climbing higher the academic ladder when he enrolled at Hamilton College. He played basketball in his collegiate years as a point guard on the Division III team. During his senior year, Joseph made the All-Conference Second Team and was regarded a respectable rotation guard.

Joseph was eligible for the 2015 NBA draft but he was undrafted that year. Same year, he was signed by Taiwan’s Taipei Fubon Braves for the 2015 SBL season. For the whole of the first half, Lin couldn’t get much play time as he only averaged 5 points and 2 assists.

Lin did not give up his dreams as he came back stronger, fought through the obstacles and proved that he belonged at the pro level. He was named the SBL 2015-2016 Rookie of the Year, became the first rookie ever to be named to the All-SBL first team. He averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

Lin won his first SBL Championship in the 2018-19 season, finishing as the second local player averaging 13.4 points per game and fourth in assists sitting at 4.9 assists per game. He went on to average 14.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in the finals.

After 7 seasons with the Taipei Fubon Braves, Lin posted a heartfelt post on August 7, 2022 that he wouldn’t be returning for the 8th season. He was transferred to the New Taipei Kings on August 12, 2022.
