For the people of Port De Grave and Newfoundland, today is a sad day. Dwight Petten, a stalwart of the fishing industry, has been lost. Dwight Petten, a fisherman from Port de Grave whose business includes four fishing boats, passed suddenly Friday at 11:08 p.m., surrounded by his devoted family. At the age of 56, he passed away. Everyone who knew Dwight described him as a young fisherman, businessman, family man, and friend.

Dwight was well known in the fishery industry, being a fisherman all of his life. His cause of death was not disclosed. The Port De Grave and Newfoundland fishing community, however, is crushed and startled by his passing. Even though he was skilled at it, Dwight wasn’t only a man of the water. His faith in God never wavered throughout his life.

Dwight was constantly working to adorn his boats and was a big enthusiast of boat lighting. Having lived most of his life at sea, he seemed like a man always on the go.
