Heritage Ajibola: OAU Student Dies After Falling Inside Septic Tank (Photo)

Heritage Ajibola, a 100-level female student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), is said to have died after accidentally falling into a septic-tank at one of the school’s hostels.

The deceased was a student of the Linguistics and African Languages Department at the institution.

According to reports, the deceased fell inside a septic tank at Bver Hostel, Maintenance Hostels, Ile-Ife, Osun state, on Wednesday afternoon.

Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekan, the school’s students’ union president, confirmed her death in a statement, saying that her death could have been avoided if the soakaway system had been properly constructed and covered.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. She is mourned by the Union. May her soul find eternal rest. May God grant her family, friends, and classmates the strength to cope with this unavoidable loss.

“It should be noted that Heritage’s death could have been avoided if the soakaway system had been properly built and covered. It’s unfortunate that this has occurred despite the large sums of money paid in rent by students.

“The Hostel’s management must take responsibility for Heritage’s death. The Union is demanding justice for Heritage right away, in order to prevent this from happening again.”
