Monk’s Swansea made it to the Europa League round of 32, where they lost 3-1 on aggregate to Rafa Benítez’s Napoli team, having finished second in their Group A behind Valencia.

With one game remaining, Swansea managed to stave off relegation. On May 7, 2014, Monk signed a three-year contract to become Swansea City’s permanent manager, bringing an end to his playing career.

Swansea defeated Manchester United 2-1 on the road in the first game of the 2014–15 season, marking the team’s first-ever league victory at Old Trafford under Monk’s leadership.

With two home victories over Burnley and West Bromwich Albion, the Swans maintained their winning start to the league campaign. As a result of their recent success, Swansea is now tied for first place in the Premier League standings, and Monk was named August’s Premier League Manager of the Month.
