Fresh Update On Senator Who Assaulted Nursing Mother At Adult Toy Shop

The senator who assaulted a nursing mother in Abuja, Elisha Abbo, has been granted conditional bail by the Federal Capital Territory police command.

Naijaparry learned that Abbo was released in the afternoon on Friday after meeting the conditions for his bail.

It was learned that the senator had turned himself in on Thursday evening following an invitation by the police headquarters over the assault.

Abbo was caught on a camera installed at a sex toy shop assaulting the woman.

Although the video surfaced online on Tuesday, July 2, the incident was reported to have occurred on 11 May, a month before Abbo was sworn in as senator.

He apologised to mothers, Nigerians, his party, the National Assembly, his family, the victim and her family as well as all people who were embarrassed by his conduct.

“I’m not here to tell my own side of the story,” he said.

“It is with a deep sense of remorse and responsibility that I, Senator Ishaku Abbo profoundly apologise to all Nigerians, the Senate, the Peoples Democratic Party, my family, friends as well as our mothers – the Nigerian women.

“I personally apologize to Bibra and her family for my action towards her, which has brought immense discomfort in our body polity.”

Despite his apology, the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) appears not to be buying his apology, saying “apology was not enough, something must be done to deter others.”

National President of the council, Gloria Shoda, condemned the act, adding that the law must take its course.

“On behalf of NCWS, I thank the Inspector General of Police for calling for Sen. Abbo’s arrest,” she said in a statement.

“I also commend the Senate for setting up a committee to probe the senator and I pray it will not only end there.

“I want the IG to ensure that Abbo faces the law, he should not only be arrested but let him be charged to court and whatever the law says on assault, let him face it

“It is time we make people face the consequences of their actions. We should not allow people like this in leadership positions.

“Women have been suffering various forms of assault and we want the senator’s case to be used to get justice for them.”
