FPE: NUCJ Ede Chapter pleads for FG’s intervention as ASUP/ Management crisis lingers
National Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ) Ede Chapter widely known as FPE Students’ Press plead to FG to intervene swiftly to the ongoing feud between Ede Poly management and ASUP which has brought resumption of academic activities of the Polytechnic to a standstill.
It is quite appalling that sequel to the compelling universal outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic which had coerced nations and cities of the world, Nigeria included, into absolute lockdown for several weeks and consequently forced the closure of schools nationwide since March 2020, students across the country had spent astronomical number of weeks to “stay home and stay safe” in lieu of the usual day-to-day learning activities.
Subsequently, the #EndSARS movement came forth to further drag school reopening backward and the looting which conspicuously followed suit prompted the imposition of curfew in some states especially Osun where Ede Poly is situated dealt the resumption of the Polytechnic a heavy blow. Students anticipated in forlorn at the incessant ravage of time.
Albeit, prior to that, the management had announced October 19, 2020 as resumption date for academic activities. Astonishingly, students who had returned from far and near were stranded in classrooms and lecture halls as lecturers chose to desert classes until their demands are met by the management.
Meanwhile, the Press appeal to the Office of the President and Federal Ministry of Education to make timely intervention and come to the rescue of the study-ready students of Federal Polytechnic Ede.
