FG Stops Fuel Supply To Stations At Land Borders

The Nigerian government has issued a directive stopping petroleum products from being supplied to fuel stations within 20km of the borders.

This directive was issued through the Nigerian Customs Service in a memo by its Controller General, Hameed Ali.

This directive would also be carried out under the ongoing Operation Swift Response which is supervising the land border closure.

“The Comptroller-General of Customs has directed that henceforth no petroleum product no matter the tank size is permitted to be discharged in any filling station with 20 kilometres to the border,” the memo signed by Chidi A., the deputy comptroller general for enforcement, investigation and inspection, read.

“Consequently, you are all to ensure strict and immediate compliance, please.”

The joint-border security exercise, code-named ‘Ex-Swift Response’, which was ordered by the federal government, commenced in August to secure Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.

The federal government had explained that the closure of Nigeria’s borders was undertaken to strengthen the nation’s security and protect its economic interests.
