FG Sets To Start Registration Of Cattles From Neighbouring Countries
Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, has hinted that the Federal Government is set to bring back the policy which ensures the registration of livestock coming into Nigeria from nearby countries.
Naijaparry News understands that the livestock registration policy was last practised about 60-years ago.
Sabo in his statement during the last weekend at the inauguration of the governing council of the Nigerian Veterinary Council noted that the move to re-introduce the policy is for the government to be able to curb the spread of livestock diseases across the country.
He said, “As a ministry, we are taking steps to re-introduce the registration of cattle and sheep coming into the country.”
“The ministry was in the process of presenting funding request to Federal Executive Council to tackle pest and diseases across the country,” Sabo was quoted.
He added that “as soon as the approval got, implementation would begin to contain the diseases,”
Speaking about development in the Agricultural sector, Sabo states that the sector had been enjoying an incredible increasing investment in the last few years.
He said, “As veterinarians, you must be interested that many developments are coming into the sector, and you start thinking of how to key into the developments that are coming into the country.”
Naija News recalls that a building belonging to one Abdurrahman Isah alias Zabo, a resident in Kaura-Namoda was discovered as one of the places of refuge for cattle rustlers in Zamfara State.
