A Man’s body has been recovered from a popular Scots beauty spot after running into difficulties whilst wild swimming.

Emergency services raced to the scene at the Falls of Falloch, in Stirlingshire, around 5.20pm on Saturday July 9, after reports of concern for a 24-year-old man.

The Falls of Falloch, situated near the A82, around five miles from the village of Crianlarich, is a popular beauty spot with visitors in the summer.

The site is often used for wild swimming during the warmer months.

Visitors flocked to the area over the weekend as temperatures soared to up to 25C.

Footage showed rescue services including paramedics and the Coastguard helicopter attending the scene.

Members of the public also helped look for the missing swimmer.

Tragically, Police Scotland’s diving unit recovered the body of the man from the water shortly after.

Officers confirmed there were no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to concerns for a person near Falls of Falloch at around 5.20pm on Saturday, 9 July, 2022.

Elsewhere, we told how local fire crews couldn’t be sent to a house blaze because they were all off shift – the second incident of its kind in just a fortnight.

Emergency services were alerted to the bungalow fire in Carlops, near West Linton, Peebleshire, just after 10am on Monday.

But teams from both West Linton and nearby Penicuik stations couldn’t attend despite both being within a 10 minute drive – and instead crews from 14 miles away in Tollcross and Dalkeith had to be scrambled.

The first appliance didn’t arrived until 20 minutes after the call and then it was over 40 minutes until the entire crew were on the scene.

It comes just weeks after we told how two fire engines in the same area couldn’t be used to tackle a blaze just 400 yards away because their crews had the night off.

A source said: “This comes on the back of the previous similar incident and shows there are real problems in this area with staff all being off at the same time.

“Fortunately in this situation no one was injured but if these delays to deploy the nearest crews continue then there will be a tragedy.”

It’s understood the staffing issue is being investigated.
