Ede Poly: Why We Passed Vote Of No Confidence on Rector – Dr. Amusan
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole, has been suspended by the Academic Board of the institution.
A vote of no confidence was passed on his leadership as the chairman of the board, and was declared unfit to hold the position.
His suspension as board chairman bothers on what members described as flagrant disobeying the polytechnic regulations and his failure to stop the dual program being run by the institution in conjunction with Ilori College of Education, Ede.
The dual program which affords student to be awarded both Ordinary National Diploma and NCE certificates at the same time. A program which has been declared illegal by the NBTE due to the fact that it was not duely approved by the regulating agencies.
According to the Dean, School of Applied Sciences who doubles as Chairman, Committee of Deans in the institution, Dr. Ajitoni Amusan, said, a vote of no confidence was passed on the Rector based on the fact that he doesn’t listen to members of Academic board and he has been running the affairs of the institution autocratically.
Reacting to the development, the ASUP Chairman in the institution, Mr Masopa Adekunle maintained that the Union has reached a resolution that no matter what happens within the polytechnic, the ongoing examination should not be disrupted for anything.
“The main grouse of the Academic Board has to do with the dual award program where the polytechnic was lured into an arrangement that will lead to award of National Diploma and NCE certificates. A certificate that does not even belong or connected to the polytechnic.”
“As a matter of fact, the problem with dual program was raised at the NBTE office in Abuja on the 16th of September, 2020, when they invited both the management and union to a meeting, it was at that meeting that the then Executive Secretary of NBTE, Dr. Kazaure, established that NBTE does not give any approval and it’s illegal an program.”
On the issue of passing vote of no confidence on the leadership of the Rector, Mr Masopa said, Academic Board members are members of ASUP and whatever the decision of the board, the ASUP as a union stands by it.
All attempts to speak with the rector proved abortive as calls and messages directed to his cellphone were not replied.
What a shame on the rector. He has no single reputation! He got a personal church that runs on selfish interest. Now Institution running autocratically. What a real shame
