Dricus Du Plessis Career

Du Plessis began his professional MMA career in 2013 and quickly gained an undefeated record of 4-0. He suffered his first loss in 2014 against Garreth McLellan, who was the then-EFC Middleweight Champion, via guillotine choke submission in the third round at EFC Africa 33.

In 2015, Du Plessis made his Welterweight debut at EFC Africa 40, defeating Dino Bagattin in the second round via a rear-naked choke submission. He continued his winning streak and went on to win the EFC Welterweight Championship by defeating Martin Van Staden in 2016 via guillotine choke submission in the third round.

In 2017, he returned to EFC and won the Middleweight Championship by defeating Yannick Bahati via guillotine choke submission in the first round. He also won the Performance of the Night award for this victory. In 2018, he became the KSW Welterweight Champion by defeating Roberto Soldic via TKO at KSW 43: Soldić vs. Du Plessis.

Du Plessis made his UFC debut in 2020 at UFC Fight Night 179, where he defeated Markus Perez via knockout in the first round. He won his next fight against Trevin Giles via knockout in the second round at UFC 264, earning him the Performance of the Night award.

In 2022, Du Plessis was scheduled to fight Chris Curtis at UFC 273, but Curtis withdrew due to a wrist injury and was replaced by Anthony Hernandez. Hernandez was then replaced by Kevin Gastelum, but Gastelum withdrew a week before the event due to an undisclosed injury. Du Plessis fought Brad Tavares at UFC 276, winning via unanimous decision.

Du Plessis faced Darren Till at UFC 282 on December 10, 2022, and won the fight via submission in the third round, earning him the Fight of the Night award. He then faced Derek Brunson at UFC 285 on March 4, 2023, and won the fight via technical knockout due to a corner stoppage at 4:59 of the second round.
