Coronavirus: NCDC Confirms 397 New COVID-19 Cases In Nigeria

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday evening, 28th December 2020, confirmed 397 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.

The new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 84,811 which includes 71,357 discharged cases and 1,264 deaths.

Below is the breakdown of the latest cases according to states with Lagos State having the highest number of cases followed by Plateau State.

In a related development, the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Monday, noted that the second wave of COVID-19 was caused due to the opening up of the economy, the re-opening of schools, large religious congregations, and social gatherings among others.

Prof. Abayomi stated this in a statement while giving an update on the State Government’s response against the second wave of COVID-19 at a press briefing held in Ikeja on Monday.
