Chika Okpala was born on June 10, 1950, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He attended Prince Memorial High School at Onitsha, a city in Anambra State, Southeastern Nigeria, between 1964 and 1972.

He later obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1996.

Chika Okpala is one of the pioneers of Nollywood. When he played the lead role in the well-known NTA sitcom “New Masquerade” in 1983, he made his formal acting debut.
