Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea Irabor is the current Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff and an Army Major General. He was born on the 5th of October, 1965, and hails from Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.
Following the resignation of service chiefs, Leo Irabor was appointed by President Muhammed Buhari as the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff on January 26, 2021.
Major General Leo Irabor is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied engineering. He is also an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Programme, USA.
In 1995 he attended Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji (AFCSC) for his Junior Staff Course, and for his Senior Staff Course, he attended Ghana Armed Forces Staff College, Teshi, Accra, Ghana in 2000/2001.
In 2010 he attended the National Defence College, Bangladesh, and Harvard Kennedy Schools of Government and Executive Education, the USA in 2012 and 2017 respectively. Major General Leo Irabor holds two Masters Degree from the University of Ghana, Accra, and Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhakar.

In 1983, he gained admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna as a member of the 34 Regular Course, and after graduating from the NDA, on the 28th of June, 1986, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Signals Corps of the Nigerian Army.
He was the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, TRADOC, Minna. Before becoming the Chief of Defence Staff, he was the Chief of Training and Operations, Defence headquarters, and supervised training and operations in the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the direction of the then Chief of Defence Staff.
Major General Leo Irabor was a Theatre Commander in the Operation Lafia Doyle in the North-Eastern Part of Nigeria against Boko Haram and the Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin Area. He also served as the Chairman Assembly of First Nations (AFN) on COVID-19.
On the 26th of January, 2021, he was appointed as the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff by President Muhammed Buhari following the resignation of service chiefs.
