She began her career as a filmmaker, co-directing and writing the screenplay for the 2009 movie A Trivial Exclusion, where she also starred in the leading role. In 2015, she wrote and directed the feature film Last Migration.
Wonders has also acted in several other movies, including the 2019 psychological horror film Daniel Isn’t Real where she played Makayla, and the 2020 comedy-drama film On the Rocks, directed by Sofia Coppola, where she had a small role.
In 2021, Wonders landed a major role in the HBO Max series Generation, playing the character of Riley, a strong and confident high school student. She also wrote and directed a short film called Wake, starring herself and Charles Melton, in collaboration with Vogue China magazine in the same year.
