Who was Chantal Herman?
Chantal Herman was a South African actress. She was born in Cape Town, where she was raised by her father Anthony, an IT manager, and her mother Sybil, a primary school teacher. Tania is her only sister.
She attended the Waterfront Theatre School, where she earned her Associate Teacher’s Diplomas in National, Tap, Ballet, and Modern Dance as well as a Performer’s Diploma from Trinity College. She spent a year leading the Lighting and Sound Department as well.
She starred as “Djamila, a dying woman on plain” in Simon Pegg’s 2014 film Hector and the Search for Happiness, and she also played “Candy” in “Sy Klink soos Lente” and “Young Medic” in 2016’s Prisoner of War.

Chantal has had numerous appearances on South African television, including in soap operas like Isidingo and Generations, as well as in Shado’s, Molo Fish II, Jozi Streets, Saints, Sinners and Settlers, and Meeulanders.
She also had a lead role in Shado’s. Her most recent role was in the TV comedy “Those Who Can’t” as the deliciously intense English teacher Sylvia Hiscock, for which she was nominated in 2016 for a South African Film and TV Award for Best Comedy Lead Actress.
Chantal Herman was best known for her part as Lorn in the SABC3 sitcom Shado’s. She was also well recognised for her appearances as Liz Isaacs on the SABC2 comedy-drama The Riviera and Sylvia Hiscock on both seasons of the SABC3 sitcom Those Who Can’t.

In addition to a family drama called “Christmas in the City” for SABC television, she has also directed two television pilots. She served as the show’s creative director and sang the show’s theme song and several other songs. She also contributed writing to the children’s educational television series Bookstores.
Her stage credits also include supporting parts in Thoroughly Modern Millie, We Will Rock You, The Wizard of Oz, Evita, Noah of Cape Town, Guga MZimba, and Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors, all of which were directed by Anthony Rapp. Character actor and voice artist Chantal was active in Johannesburg.
