Breaking: Supreme Court Dismisses APC And David Lyon’s Request On Bayelsa Governorship

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the ruling which sacked David Lyon and Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo as the governor-elect and deputy governor-elect of Bayelsa State respectively.

The seven-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, after listening to the submissions of the counsels from both parties dismissed the case by APC and David Lyon for lack of merit.

Justice Amina Augie who read the judgment on Wednesday, said the application by APC and Lyon lacked merit and the decisions of the court are final.

She added that the judgment of the apex court is final in the ‘real sense’ and no court on earth can review the judgment.

“ There must be an end to litigation even if we review this judgment, every disaffected litigant will bring similar applications and the finality of Supreme Court judgments will be lost.”

She added that the applicants should pay the sum of N10 million for their frivolous and vexatious application.

Furthermore, Justice Augie ruled that the counsels of the APC and Mr Lyon are to each pay Governor Douye Diri, his deputy Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the PDP the same N10 million.

It will be recalled the All Progressives Congress (APC) had approached the apex court for a review of its February 13, 2020 judgment which overturned its victory in the last governorship election in Bayelsa State.
