Beware of Aregbesola – PDP cautions AFDB over loan request
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the African Development Bank (AFDB) against granting a loan request by the Rauf Aregbesola-led administration.
It alleged that the money would be diverted.
PDP, in a press statement signed by its State Chairman, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, made available to Daily Post on Thursday alleged that Governor Aregbesola was deceiving the bank, with a covert intent of diverting the loans for election purpose.
According to Adagunodo, the PDP became worried based on the “desperate move “by the APC government to acquire additional loans less than 6 months to the expiration of the administration, and as a result complicate the state’s indebtedness.”
The party further knocked Governor Aregbesola for allegedly displaying technical education equipment which were bought by the Oyinlola administration in 2009 as if they were freshly procured.
“Those equipment had been locked up by the Aregbesola administration since it aborted the project started by the PDP for the upgrade of our technical colleges but hurriedly brought out in order to deceive the AFDB team and convince them on the need to grant this fresh loan request.
“We have no doubt in our minds that what the governor is in a hurry to do is to secure the AFDB loan as fresh billions of Naira which will be squandered on his desperate attempt to install his stooge at the forthcoming governorship election.
“We consider it highly expedient to alert the African Development Bank to the present state of insolvency of Osun state occasioned by the financial recklessness of the APC government and as confirmed by several notable credit rating organisations.
“We also wish to warn top civil servants, especially those saddled with the Management of state finances to refrain from doing anything that will further compound the woes of Osun state by this expiring administration because they will also be called to account for any malfeasance committed by the APC government especially in its dying days”, Adagunodo said.
PDP described the inclusion of the Airport project in the list of projects to be executed with the new loans as very unfortunate, alleging that over N15 billion naira expended on the project could not be accounted for.
