Best keys to solving most of your life’s problems
A professor of cognition at Lancaster University and some of his colleagues conducted a study whose results can change the way we solve problems and ultimately change our lives.
They gave two groups of volunteers a set of easy and difficult questions. One group (sleep) had access to the issues at night and was able to resolve them again the next morning.
The other group (vigil) received the questions in the morning and tried to solve them again during the night of that same day.
The vigil group had a slight advantage in solving the easy problems, but the group that had slept had a considerable advantage in solving the difficult issues.
In view of this and other similar studies, it is concluded that the key to solving most problems is described in English as “sleeping on it,” which means “to think more about the subject” or, the translation that best fits, “leave it to resolve the next day” .
The sleep is the key point. We are inclined to think that sleep is only the rest period of body and mind. But scholars say that their action on the brain is much greater. It has an active function.
Sleep: – Improves memory It causes the new information acquired to be consolidated with the knowledge we already have.
– Changes the quality of stored information
We are more likely to slightly adjust our memories after sleeping, so that they fit better with our previous experiences.
– Improve the ability to make decisions
We are more likely to avoid misinformation when making decisions and making judgments.
– Improves problem-solving ability
Especially the most difficult, as shown in the results of the experiment reported above. In practice, we can say that solving our problems after a good night’s sleep contributes to success in all walks of life.
We will be more competent professionals; spouses who are more likely to make decisions and make judgments that benefit marriage and the family; more successful in the academic environment, etc.
If you have something important to solve, try to analyze the problem before bed and try to solve it the next day. The chances of you succeeding will be much greater.
