Benue’s Ortom Reacts To FG’s Suspension Of RUGA Settlements Plan
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says the suspension of the Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) Settlements plan by the Federal Government is a victory for all peace-loving Nigerians.
Naijaparry reports that the governor made this known in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase on Wednesday.
The Governor states that the rejection of the Ruga settlement model was not personal but rather a struggle by the people of the country against impunity and injustice.
Governor Ortom commends President Muhammadu Buhari for heeding the call of the people for the suspension of the Ruga settlement patterns.
He says the decision to suspend the Ruga programme shows that President Buhari “has heard the voices of the majority of Nigerians on the matter.”
He states that truth has prevailed on the Ruga issue, citing the Bible book of John 8: 32 which says, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”
Governor Ortom, therefore, urges the Federal Government to take a step further to encourage pastoralists and other livestock owners to embrace ranching as the best model of animal husbandry.
Meanwhile, Nigerians are reacting to the news of the Ruga implementation suspension. See some reactions below:

Thank you Nigerians for speaking up.
FG suspends RUGA. We will meet to re-strategize on this & inform you if there will still be a rally on Friday or not. #NoToRUGA— Comrade Deji Adeyanju (@adeyanjudeji) July 3, 2019
We do not want you to suspend RUGA, we want you to CANCEL it! Suspension means you are postponing the evil day, cancel means it is NEVER coming back. If you want peace in this country RUGA must be CANCELLED and you must also CANCEL your Fulanisation and Islamisation policy.
