OUTCOME OF THE PROTEST HELD BY NAPS AT THE NNAMDI AZIKWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, ABUJA

Greatest Nigerian Students!

‘To say that a bad government must be established for fear of anarchy is really saying that we should kill ourselves for fear of dying’. And, “I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom.

Just as we promised to shutdown the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, we made it a reality as students heavily mobilised with their SUG Buses barricaded the entrance to the Airport for 3hours.

In spite the security threats posed by the heavily armed security personnel of the airport, the students were not intimidated as they continued to march towards the main gate of the airport.

The Regional Manager of the Airport alongside with the Chief Security Officer and the Commissioner of Police FCT were forced tocome their cometheir down to meet with the protesting students.

The SUG President, Federal Polytechnic Offa and other institutions leader demanded that the Minister of Aviation communicate with his counterpart Minister of Education to immediately call for an emergency meeting with the students and the Striking Lecturers, and because of the traffic congestion caused at the entrance to the Airport as a result of the protest, the request was immediately granted and an emergency meeting was called at the Federal Ministry of Education. The Protesting students withdrew and converged at the Ministry of Education, where the meeting was conveyed with The Executive Secretary of NBTE, Representative of the Minister of Labour, the Permanent Secretaries of both Ministry of and Labour and Education respectively, the Leadership of ASUP National were all in attendance, and at the end, the following were agreed:

  1. That an express meeting will continue hold between the Ministry and ASUP until resolutions are made.
  2. That the ES of NBTE be a catalyst in facilitating an end to the strike.
  3. That most grey areas enumerated by ASUP have been captured and an undisclosed amount running into tens of billions have been approved by FG as part of the demands of the Lecturers and are followed up on.
  4. And that the students be rest assured that our campuses will be reopened very soon with the above developments achieved so far.

The Leadership of NAPS agreed with the development and hope that the agreements are made as another 14days ultimatum have been given to shutdown the INEC National Headquarters if the students don’t resume.

We want to appreciate all the SUG Presidents, All students, compatriot students leaders who travelled from various institutions and states to make this happen, National Excos of NAPS, the Commissioner of Police FCT, the Students delegate Desk officer of the DSS, NSCDC, FRSC and everyone for making the outing successful and violence free.

We promise to remain committed to the struggle until we see the light at the end of the tunnel.
