List Of Art Courses In Nigeria Polytechnics

Even though polytechnics are not the first-choice tertiary institutions in Nigeria, many admission seekers in the country opt for them due to their easier admission criteria and requirements.

If you took art subjects in secondary school and would like to proceed to study in a polytechnic, then this post is for you.

Below is the list of some art courses available in Nigerian polytechnics as well as the O’Level and UTME requirements for each course.

Arts and Design

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Fine Art Mathematics and any two (2) of the following: History/Government, Chemistry/Physical Science, Biology/Agricultural Science, Literature in English, Clothing and Textiles, Religious Knowledge, Economics/Commerce, Geography, Home Economics.

UTME Subjects – Fine Art and any two (2) of History, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and a Nigeria Language.

Arts and Industrial Design

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Fine Art Mathematics and any two (2) of the following: History/Government, Chemistry/Physical Science, Biology/Agricultural Science, Literature in English, Clothing and Textiles, Religious Knowledge, Economics/Commerce, Geography, Home Economics.

UTME Subjects – Fine Art and any two (2) of History, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and a Nigeria Language.

Estate Management and Valuation

O’Level Requirements – Five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, a basic science subject and any two (2) from the following: Geography, Economics/Commerce, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Fine Art, Woodwork, Literature, Metal Work, Principles of Accounts and Book Keeping

UTME Subjects – Mathematics and any two (2) of Economics, Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Fashion Design and Clothing Technology

O’Level Requirements – Home Economics/Technical Drawing and any four (4) of the following: Fine Art, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Clothing and Textiles, Literature in English, English Language, Home Management. At least a credit pass in English Language is compulsory.

UTME Subjects – Chemistry and any two (2) of Biology/ Agricultural Science/Physics/Mathematics.

Library and Information Studies

O’Level Subjects – The subjects needed to study Library and Information Studies in WAEC must contain five (5) credit. This subject combination is also applicable to NECO AND GCE… The O level requirement, that is, the required WAEC subject combination for Library and Information Studies must include
1. English Language
2. Mathematics
3. Three other relevant Arts/Science/Social Science subjects

JAMB UTME subject combinations (subjects to write in jamb) to study Library and Information Studies must include:
1. Any three subjects.

Mass Communication – Under Art

These subjects combination are also applicable to other O’level exams such as NECO AND GCE. The O level requirement, that is, the required WAEC subject combination for Mass Communication must include:
1. French
2. English Language
3. Any three other subjects.
4. A trade subject

JAMB UTME subject combination to study Mass Communication must include:
1. Any three Arts and Social Science subjects
