Arsenal Star, Mesut Ozil Reacts After Indian Man Named His Son After Him (Photos)
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has sent a personal message to two Indian parents who have named their son after him. Inzaman-Ul-Haq and Fida Sanam have named their little boy Mehd Ozil.
The Gunners sent staff out to Kerala in the country’s south to pass on Ozil’s best wishes to the family and film them discussing their favourite player.
The Germany star wrote on Twitter: “Great honour to be the inspiration for the name of this child. “Sending my best wishes back to India and all the best for Mehd Ozil . “Hope Mehd will assist his family with lots of smiles and memories in the years to come.
Doting daddy and diehard fan Ul-Haq explained how friends and family expected him to pick another Emirates-inspired name.
He said: “I have always been an Arsenal fan, the mighty team which included French legend Thierry Henry attracted me towards the club since my school days.
“Ever since Fida was pregnant we were thinking of naming our kid after an Arsenal player. Even though many of my friends suggested that we should name him after the long-term club manager Arsene Wenger, I preferred Ozil.”
In January the playmaker convinced the Gunners to offer him a new three-and-a-half-year deal worth £350,000.
In 24 appearances this season, 29-year-old Ozil has scored four goals and divided fans with some seeing him as a luxury player and others an integral cog in the team.
