AFCON 2021: Why Super Eagles Defender, Kenneth Omeruo May Miss Sudan Match

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo who was injured in Tuesday’s match against the Pharaohs of Egypt may not be fit for the Saturday match against Sudan.

Omeruo who was injured in the second half of the encounter was replaced by Semi Ajayi.

The Legannes of Spain defender will undergo further medical tests on Wednesday to ascertain the extent of his injury.

However, sources from the Eagles camp say the interim coach of the national team, Austin Eguavoen may not want to risk him against the Falcons.

This suggests that if Omeruo fails to shrug off the injury, Eguavoen could call on either West Brom defender Ajayi or Chidozie Awaziem for the game as they bid to qualify for the round of 16 even with a game to spare.

Omeruo made his debut at the AFCON in 2013, when Nigeria lifted the title for the third time in South Africa under the tutelage of the late Stephen Keshi, a man Omeruo fondly referred to as ‘father’.

Omeruo with 55 appearances for the Eagles is one of the most experienced players in Cameroon.
